The 10th Forum of Infrastructure Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries & Business Meeting of Infrastructure Cooperation between Macao, Shandong and Portuguese-speaking countries

In recent years, the economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries maintained the trend of steady growing, showing strong resilience and developing potential, laying a good foundation for deepening infrastructure cooperation between the two sides. From April 21 to 23, 2024, the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) was successfully held in Macao. Ministers from the participating countries signed the  Strategic Plan for Economic and Trade Cooperation (2024-2027) to support the participating countries of the forum in continuing to strengthen cooperation in the field of infrastructure, recognizing the value of organizing parallel forum during each International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao. Focusing on the heated topic of green innovation and transformation of infrastructure, incorporating elements of Shandong Province as a major province in contracting projects and manufacturing equipment, this forum will invite speakers to probe into ways on strengthening cooperation in the fields of green technology, digital economy, green finance and clean energy, with the purpose of stimulating green and low-carbon development of infrastructure in China’s mainland, Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries, and sharing opportunities for cooperation in new infrastructure projects.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is one of the most open and economically dynamic regions in China. The expanding scale of trade, personnel exchanges and capital flows between neighboring regions not only puts forward higher requirements on the carrying capacity of cross-border infrastructure, but also provides new opportunities for infrastructure cooperation within the region. The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area points out that infrastructure construction should be strengthened, external communication channels should be unimpeded, internal connectivity should be enhanced, and an infrastructure network with reasonable layout, complete functions, smooth connectivity and efficient operation should be formed to provide strong support for the economic and social development of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao should be formed.
